Call or Reraise Position

December 23rd, 2009

If you’ve got a great starting poker hand, raising before the flop is almost a no-brainer. Raising before the flop makes you the aggressor-it puts your poker opponents on the defensive and forces them to consider your hand and to re-evaluate their own hands. But what happens when you have a great starting hand and someone raises before you get a chance to? When someone else raises before the betting comes around to you, he takes the advantage right out of your poker online hand and takes charge of the table. On the other hand, if you’ve got a great starting hand that you know you’re not folding, he’s also done you a favor-he’s fattened up the pot and made sure that you’ll walk away with more than just the blinds. The question is-do you simply make a call and try to get more chips out of him during the next few betting rounds do you make a raise and try to take back the advantage? Use your position to help you decide. If you’re in an early position, you are at a bit of a disadvantage, so I’d recommend re-raising and just buying up the pot before the flop, but if you’re in a late position, feel free to simply call. If your hand improves on the flop, you can try to squeeze more chips out of him, and if it doesn’t, you can use your position to outplay your opponent.
